Community Free Clinic is a safety net provider for uninsured Washington County residents. The majority of the patients suffer with chronic diseases tied to cardiovascular health. By providing healthcare at no cost to the medically uninsured, the Clinic combats chronic disease, mental health, and other health issues while striving to make the community, as a whole, healthier and stronger. The Clinic also provides reproductive health services to a growing number of teenagers and young adults.
In 1988 the Maryland Dental Association created the Maryland Foundation of Dentistry. The sole purpose of the organization is to facilitate the provision of pro bono dental care for Maryland citizens who are disabled, cannot afford treatment and are ineligible for public aid.
The MFD operates the Donated Dental Services Program. The Program recruits volunteer dentists and dental laboratories to provide services free of charge to adult low-income Maryland residents who are disabled by illness or injury. MFD patient care coordinators act as liaisons between patients and dentists to maximize the volunteers’ time and ensure that patients receive needed care and services. Since 1989, over $19 million in free dental care has been provided to approximately 9,800 Marylanders.
Partners in Care, a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is committed to enabling older adults to remain independent in their homes and engaged in the community. It is an almost-all-volunteer organization and has provided service to literally thousands of older adults at four sites in Maryland.
A grant was awarded to support the Ride Partners Program in Anne Arundel County. A major component of the program is access to health care. Volunteers use their own cars to provide no-monetary-cost rides for trips to doctor visits, hospitals, pharmacies and other destinations as well as provide other one-on-one, person–centered services to seniors.
