Success Stories LogoQlarant Foundation provided Talisman Therapeutic Riding with a $5,000 grant as part of the 2024 grant cycle. This new grantee transforms lives by fostering personal growth, healing, and empowerment through equine-assisted activities and enriching outdoor experiences. The professional team passionately believes in the life-changing potential of equine-assisted activities and the transformative power of nature and the outdoors. They are dedicated to providing services to people of all backgrounds and abilities, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

The core Therapeutic/Adaptive Horsemanship Program provides customized lessons and activities involving horses to help build confidence, self-esteem, physical strength, communication skills, and more based on each individual’s needs and goals. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors (CTRI) develop specialized lesson plans and work one-on-one with participants during weekly mounted or unmounted activities. This client centered focus aligns well with Qlarant’s mission to improve access and quality of care.

Qlarant Foundation funding will help to sustain and enhance the equine-assisted services provided to the community. Infusion of the grant money into Talisman operations will allow the organization to maintain the current per-lesson costs to participants; thus, reducing the fiscal barrier for those seeking community-based health and wellness services.

Talisman Therapeutic RidingWith equine-assisted services spanning rehabilitation therapy, family enrichment, health literacy, community inclusion, stress relief, and beyond, the Talisman Therapeutic Riding Program shares Qlarant’s commitment to improving health quality by providing community-based health interventions and quality services promoting wellness for all ages and abilities.

In 2023, Talisman provided 1,600+ equine-assisted lessons to more than 100 children, teens, adults, seniors, veterans, first responders, and families. These participants ranged in age, from three years old to over 85 years old, and are challenged with physical, cognitive, emotional, and social disabilities. Talisman serves, empowers, and leads by example with compassion and dignity.

Talisman Therapeutic RidingWhile most participants reside in Maryland, the quality services provided by Talisman attract people from Delaware, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. They work closely with social services, community health organizations, law enforcement, school systems, rehabilitative programs, veterans’ affairs, mental health groups, and family courts to identify who can benefit from equine-assisted programs. Talisman maintains strong relationships with entities throughout Maryland, and the surrounding states that regularly refer participants to our programs.

Due to emerging scientific research, more people are seeking non-traditional alternatives and community-based resources for healthcare needs. The demand for equine-assisted services is increasing each year, and Talisman anticipates another rise in the number of participants and lesson hours in 2025. With the help of Qlarant, Talisman can sustain operations and continue providing professional, nationally accredited equine-assisted services.
