The University Legal Services’ Jail and Prison Advocacy Project (JPAP) promotes access to community-based health care and mental health care by District of Columbia residents with mental illness who are incarcerated in DC and in Federal Bureau of Prison facilities throughout the country.

JPAP provides transition services prior to and following release, which are critical to ensure individuals’ access to physical and mental health care and facilitates reestablishment of their community ties upon release. JPAP helps people reconnect with their former providers or identify new ones and advocates for more intensive mental health services if needed.
