Harbhajan (Harry) Ajrawat, MD

Dr. Ajrawat was born and raised in Amritsar, India. He received his BS in Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry in 1969 and his MD in 1974 from The Guru Nanak University in Amritsar, India. He immigrated to the United States in August 1976 and became a Naturalized Citizen in 1997.

He did his Residency in General Surgery and Urology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York. Upon completion of his training, he moved to the Washington Metropolitan Area in 1982 and set up his private practice in Urology in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. In May 2006 he joined several other urologists who came together to form the MidAtlantic Urology Associates, LLC. He is currently working with Chesapeake Urology Associates in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties.

Dr. Ajrawat is Board-Certified in Urology. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Urological Association, American Association of Clinical Urologists, Mid-Atlantic Urology Association, and The Indian American Urological Association (IAUA). He is also a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), The Maryland State Medical Society (MedChi), and the Prince George’s County Medical Society.

Dr. Ajrawat has served as the President of The Maryland State Medical Society (MedChi), President of the Prince George’s County Medical Society, President of The Indian American Medical Society of Greater Washington (IAMA), President of The Indian American Urological Association of North America, and President of The American Association of Clinical Urologists.

Dr. Ajrawat is currently serving as the Chairman of the Maryland Board of Physicians, and Chairman of the Maryland Delegate to the American Medical Association.

In 2010 Dr. Ajrawat was honored by the Maryland State Medical Society and awarded the Dr. Henry P. & H. Paige Laughlin Award for dedicated and outstanding service as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee from 2007-2010. In 2009 he received the Sushruta Award from the IAUA for outstanding contribution and achievement in the field of Urology. In 2011 he was bestowed with the Distinguished Physician & Community Service Award by the IAMA.

Dr. Ajrawat published several academic papers while he was a resident in Urology. His interests include general urology with special interest in male and female sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence, infertility and malignancies of the prostate, kidney and bladder.

Dr. Ajrawat is happily married to Dr. Satinder Ajrawat who is a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist. They have three children, a daughter, Amrita K. Lakhanpal, and two sons, Partap and Rajbir. They are blessed with four grandchildren, Zara and Kabir Lakhanpal and Roman and Summer Ajrawat.

Dr. Ajrawat enjoys gardening, travelling, golfing, and photography.
