Qlarant and Habitat for Humanity “rock the block”
Over 90 volunteers take a day to clean, build and repair a Cambridge Neighborhood
Cambridge, MD, April 27, 2018– Habitat for Humanity Choptank and the City of Cambridge united with Qlarant for the initiation day of ‘Rock the Block’ – a program designed to help rejuvenate a neighborhood in Cambridge, Maryland.
Habitat for Humanity is well known for its work to build houses but this effort had a different, far-reaching effect – it extended several blocks and included projects such as the cleaning of trash lots, the building of raised flower and vegetable gardens, and the cleanup of a burnt out building.
While Qlarant’s headquarters are in Easton, MD., Habitat Choptank hosted approximately 90 managers from Qlarant locations around the country. The managers volunteered their time with a hope that Habitat projects will be sparked across the country when they return home. To kick off the gathering, Mayor Victoria Stanley and Cambridge Commissioner Canon welcomed the group and expressed their gratitude. Catering by Jamie provided lunch, after which Senator Addie Eckardt and Delegate Johnny Mautz welcomed the group and shared their appreciation for the group’s efforts.
“We love participating in these events because we live here in the area. Our headquarters is just down the road and the mid-shore is a close community.” Says Deb Keller, VP of Human Resources at Qlarant. “This block clean-up project is so meaningful for us. Our mission arm, Qlarant Foundation’s, entire purpose is about improving the health of individuals and the communities. This type of work goes hand in hand with that. It is good for Cambridge and it is a great team-building experience for our group. Helping the community is part of what makes Qlarant a great place to work.”
Qlarant Chief Executive Officer, Ron Forsythe presented Habitat for Humanity Choptank with a $2,500 check to support Habitat in serving even more families.
