Baltimore, MD, February 21, 2013—On February 13, 2013, Quality Health Strategies (QHS) President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Fredia S. Wadley and QHS Chairman of the Board, Dr. Roger Merrill were featured speakers at the Maryland Million Hearts Symposium held at Martins West in Baltimore, MD. They joined Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Secretary, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) and Dr. Janet Wright, Executive Director, Million Hearts Initiative as DHMH kicked off the statewide campaign with Delmarva Foundation as a co-sponsor. The 52 speakers and panelists led over 350 healthcare professionals, state employees, and citizens concerned with heart health for a full-day conference. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; attendees shared their best practices to overcome barriers and strengthen cardiac health in the state of Maryland.
Along with Drs. Wadley and Merrill, Dr. Columbus Giles, Delmarva Foundation Chief Medical Officer, and Mark Stewart, Vice President of External Relations for Delmarva Foundation, led panel discussions in three break-out sessions: Health Care; Worksite; and Communities, Schools, and Childcare.
“I was very pleased to be a speaker at the Million Hearts Symposium,” said Dr. Wadley. “This effort is directly related to one of our core concerns. QHS and our subsidiary Delmarva Foundation are dedicated to developing and implementing innovative strategies for improving the quality of and access to health services and programs. We were proud to partner with DHMH and the healthcare community to promote heart health.”
Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care is a subsidiary of QHS and is the federally-designated Medicare quality improvement organization (QIO) for Maryland.
