Herbert M. Chain, MBA, CPA

Herb Chain is an experienced, strategic-thinking professional, with almost five decades of auditing, accounting, financial, and business experience. As a former senior audit partner at Deloitte, Herb served complex global public and private commercial and financial institutions, with experience in other industries, and developed and lead service lines of business.

Mr. Chain is currently a shareholder in CBIZ CPAs P.C. and served on the firm’s national Audit Methodology Group prior to CBIZ’s acquisition of Marcum LLP. He currently continues to serve in the local New York City Metro Professional Standards Group (performing engagement quality reviews and consulting on issues relating to quality management, ethics, independence, auditing, and accounting) and is a member of the combined firm’s National Attest Office. He has been published in international publications on such topics as quality management, auditors’ responsibilities for financial fraud, digital assets, and technology trends. He also served as adjunct professor (formerly a full-time assistant professor) in the Department of Accountancy at St. John’s University in New York (teaching professional ethics, SEC practice, and enterprise risk management) and lead the Tobin Center for Executive Education.

Mr. Chain has served on public entity boards as an audit committee member, and has served, and continues to serve, on not-for-profit boards.

Mr. Chain is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA). He is a member of five NYSSCPA committees: SEC (former chair), Digital Assets, Investment Management, Stockbrokerage, and Quality Management and Peer Review. He is also a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the Private Directors Association (holding board credentials from both). He holds a New York State CPA license and is designated by the AICPA as a Chartered Global Management Accountant.

Mr. Chain is completing his doctoral studies at the International School of Management. He received a BS in Marine Geology from Duke University (cum laude) in 1974, and an MBA in finance and accounting from the Wharton Graduate School of Business in 1977. He also has a MS in International Relations from NYU (2007), as well as certificates in Global Affairs (from NYU) and in Terrorism Studies (from The Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland).
