Associated Black Charities was founded in 1985 to represent and respond to issues of special significance to Maryland’s African American communities. It is a public foundation that advocates and facilitates the creation of measurably healthier and more prosperous communities through responsible leadership and philanthropic investment throughout the State of Maryland.

An amount of $25,000 was awarded to Associated Black Charities for its Community Health & Outreach Worker Program in Dorchester County which is designed to improve health care access and health status for individuals living in underserved communities. The program operates by using non-clinical, trusted members of the community who have been professionally trained in the areas of Chronic Disease, Cultural Competency, Motivational Interviewing and Professionalism to help empower residents to advocate for themselves and their families’ health outcomes.
